Weekly reflection

This week on Tuesday Finlay and I went to the Rotary Speech Competition to represent grey main school and The topic of my speech was HAPPINESS and some of the other topics were: Racism, child Abuse, My move to NZ, two speeches on Happiness, Disney, Pollution, My family, Junk Food, two gymnastic speeches. When we got there we all had a buffet for dinner and dessert. And once everyone had finished we started the speeches. To decide who went first the names were drawn out of a ballot and I was 2nd to last. After everyone had gone I have realised that I was the only person who didn't have note cards. Once all the speeches were done they took a minute to decide on the winner in 3rd place Was Alyssa who's speech was on her family. 2nd place went to finaly with his speech on happiness and 1st place went to me I won the competition.

Main Star

So one of my main stars this term is to make a maths game and I found this idea on pintrest and I have tried to make it as easy as possible so you lay them on a table picture side down and pick 2 up. Then you have to either add or subtract the numbers depending what you want to do and if you get it right you get 1 point and if you get it wrong you get 0 points and you can play with as many people as you want and do as many rounds as you want. Here are some pictures

Weekly reflection

This week I have been reading the book Percy Jackson and the lighting thief and I have already read the series but I decided that I would read it again I have done a book review on  it before but I am going to do a quick one now it is about a boy called Percy Jackson and he is a half blood if you dong know what a half blood it is half human half god Percy's mother is A human and his Dad is Poseidon God of the sea. But the only problem is that the Big three (Zeus Position ans Hades) have sworn not to have kids with mortals and Zeus's last child was turned into a pine tree. So he is already In danger but the Big problem is that Zeus's master bolt has been stolen and Zeus believes it was Percy so Percy along with Annabeth (daughter of Athena) And Grover the Sayter have set off to find the master bolt before the summer solstice or Zeus and Poseidon will have war upon each other.

In maths I have been working on Estimating problems on maths buddy and I have gotten really good at it My favourite questions are the ones that have 3 first names and 3 last names and by using the clues in the questions you have to find out what  name belongs to which person. Finaly and I even taught Mr Wood how to do them.

I have enterd the rotary speech competition along with Finaly and it is were you have to write a speech on the chosen topic and then present it at a dinner and the topic this year was happiness and I will be putting my speech up very soon.

It has been a all round great week and next week is the last week of school I am so excited!!!!!!!

Weekly revision

This week we have been getting ready for the Grey Main Art Soiree. Every student has to create a piece of art to show and hopefully get there parents to buy; Totara have been tie dying t shirts. Totara 1 and 2 have just been tidying them but Totara 3 have also been screen printing them. For the screen printing we had to first make a stencil I cut out a stencil of a Hawaiian flower and screen printed it on to the shirt that I tie dyed; in total I tie dyed 3 shirts. For the art soiree there at going to be lots of dancing and singing from the school choir which I am in and there is going to be lots of fun.
Thanks for reading my post and leave me a comment telling me what you think

Weekly Revision

This week we have been focusing on writing paragraphs. We learnt what a proper paragraph has to have and then we had to write an explanation. We read an article on how human have preserved bodies here is a link to the article Click here  here is my explanation so far.

Everything that is born has to die eventually No one can outlast death even  though many different cultures have tried for thousands of years. Humans have created many ways for people to  preserved bodies one of the most well known ways is mummification

Mummification

Mummification is one of the oldest ways to preserve a body. It’s not just the the Egyptians that used to mummify corpses, but other cultures such as Aztecs (Mexico) and Pacific Islands preserved bodies as well. The first thing they did was eviscerate the corpse, making sure to leave the heart behind because it is supposedly essential for the journey to the afterlife. To prevent bacterial decay the body was washed with palm wine and spices it was then covered in salt and left to dry out for about 40 days. Finally the corpse was washed again and then wrapped in many layers of cloth and then to stop the body  from getting wet it was covered in a layer of resin. The body was then carefully placed in a tomb with worldly goods along with their organs in jars.

Fantastic Plastic

Turning corpses into plastic is not the ideal way to preserve them. To turn a cadaver into a real life action figure there is a four step plasticising procedure that must be done. To prevent tissue decomposition the corpse is first set in a  preserving solution called formaldehyde. After that the body is opened up to reveal any organs or tissue for  display by an anatomist. Then the cadaver is placed in a sub zero acetone bath to dehydrate; as the body freezes all the water and moisture is sucked out of it. Acetone at a freezing temperature of -95 degrees is pumped in to replace it. Finally once all the water is gone and the cadaver it completely filled with acetone it is then submerged in a liquid polymer, silicon rubber, polyester or epoxy resin bath. After the bath it’s time to remove  the acetone they do that by placing the corpse under vacuum conditions the acetone quickly dissipates  and as it leaves it draws liquid plastic into the cells. The cadaver is now reconfigured into its final resting position as its plastic packed organs and tissue are restored with gas, heat or UV lights.

I have also done a lot of work on my maths I have got a lot of work done from volume to order of operations but Mr Wood has been working a lot on year 9 stuff but mainly travel graphs and i got 100%

So that's some of the stuff I have done this week let me know what you think by commenting

Problem solving

Today we did problem solving and the problem that we had to figure out was:

Draw five straight lines on a clock to divide it into six regions the clock numbers in each region have to add up to the same total; and this was quite hard at the beginning because we had to figure out exactly what we had to do. So we had to make six regions and they all had to end up with the same total so we quickly realised for all the regions to reach the same total we had to make the total bigger than the highest number and we thought of the number 13 so we tried it out and it worked. Here are some pictures of our solution

Reflection for Term 2

Term 2 is nearly over and So I thought I would do are reflection on this term.

So I don't really know how Mr Wood did or how I myself Did it but while doing the Virtual field trip I have become really interested in SONAR I find it fascinating that boats, planes etc are only starting to use sonar now when bats, dolphins and whales have been using for millenniums.
I am very proud of myself because we were given the mainstars the day before they had to be finished and I did them all you can checkout my mainstars on my older posts. In class we were learning a bit about the Gardener Multiple Intelligences theory and learning about the 8 different types of intelligences and we had to take a test and these are my results.

As you can See my highest intelligence is Logic which fits perfectly with my personality.
Mr Wood has been very busty so I have been a self learner most of the term which I am very proud of.

I am so excited for term 3 and I can't wait for the learning!!!!

Homework week 9

Cupcake ATM
We all know what an ATM it is a machine that spits out money but wouldn't you rather have a Cupcake ATM. A cupcake company by the name of sprinkles have opened 5 cupcake ATM's around the USA. At the ATM you can get up to 4 cookies, cupcake or even doggie cupcakes at a time. The ATM's are located next to the bakery and they bake and individuality wrap the treats. The cupcakes Cost $4 each and the machine holds up to 760 at a time which are restocked through out the 24 hours in a day.

In my opinion I think that this is an amazing invention because who doesn't like cupcakes and it is also great because if the bakery if packed you can go out to the back and order yourself some cupcakes.

Homework week 8

Italian girl finds woolly mammoth bone
A seven year old girl by the name of Emma Persico has found part of a woolly mammoth’s leg bone on a riverbank in northern Italy. The young Girl stumbled upon the fossilised chunk of tibia while walking along the River Po near the northern city of Cremona. How did the seven year old find it? The girl was walking with her father when she saw a blackened tip sticking out of a sandbank. Even her palaeontologist father hadn't noticed it. Mammoths last roamed the region at least 12,000 years ago and finding a bone there is rare, making it a dream find for Emma. Mr Persico used photos from a natural history museum in the Netherlands to confirm the identification he joked that if he wasn't certain then he’d better find a new job. The bone is now in a local museum, and will be put on display alongside a plaque with Emma’s name on it.

In my opinion I think that this is an amazing discovery and it makes me think if there is one bone there there might be others?

The Bus That Drives Over Traffic jams

A Beijing company has unveiled a design for an elevated bus capable of gliding over terrifying mega jams. Plans for the so called transit explore bus or (TEB) were shown at a technology expo in the Chinese capital. The “straddling bus” is supported by two legs that run along rails laid along the roadside. Those legs allow the TEB’s giant frame to glide high above the road at speeds of up to 60 km per hour. Vehicles that are less than two metres high will be able to drive freely underneath the bus, even when it is stationary. The buses are capable of transporting up to 1,400 commuters at a time.

World biggest bouncy castle unveiled
A bouncy castle, which is claimed to be the largest in the world, has been unveiled at a music festival in the UK. The giant castle has been inflated in Southampton and will be used at other festivals throughout the summer. The huge castle sits is 23 metres long, 20 metres wide and almost 13 metres high. It can be used by 100 people at the same time. It’s even claimed to be taller than the Great Wall of China. Guinness World Records is yet to verify the record.

I think that this is an awesome  Idea because who doesn't like bouncy castles. I think whoever created this is a genius. Its so colourful and fun.

Kiwi kids news (homework)

A woman in Maine recently graduated from college at 99 years of age, 75 years after her fellow classmates. The woman's name is Jessie White and she was supposed to graduate in 1939 but couldn't afford to pay the US$5 transcript fee. But when Jessie’s friend found out that she never graduated she got in contact with the college president and he paid the fee and set up a ceremony for Jessie. So Jessie Finally received her degree in stenography and bookkeeping.Despite not being able to graduate with the rest of her class and suffering a disability from a polio infection, Jessie never gave up and continued until she landed a job as a bookkeeper where she has worked for years. Jessie says that finally getting her degree feels great.

In my opinion I think that her friend is really nice for getting in contact with the college so that her friend could graduate.

Homework

Some Rich Chinese citizens are illegally buying tiny marmoset monkeys as pets. These small monkeys are sold for around $6000 Dew Zealand dollars and are the world’s smallest primates. Because 2016 is the year of the monkey people really want to have one of these little animals.

If you don't know what Marmoset monkeys are here is a little more about them.

They are Native only to east-central Brazil. Most marmosets are very small monkeys with relatively long tails. They stand only 14 cm tall and the key to their survival is that they work together in a pack to collect food and stay safe.

In my opinion I think that  they should leave the monkeys in their natural habitats because other wise they will be at more risk of becoming endangered and what will happen to them at the end of the year of the monkey. They might be killed if people don't want them any more.

Thats My opinion what's your tell me in the comments below

Homework

This week for home work our task is to find an article that we are interested in and write our opinion.

The article I found was that took my interest is that KFC Hong Kong has made an 2 edible nail polish that is  supposedly taste like chicken the first is hot and spicy which is an orange shade and the second is a nude colour that is called Original recipe. It is decorated with their trademark red and white packaging and its slogan its finger liking good. The polish is "sourced from all natural ingredients" which makes it completely edible.
Following a taste test a BBC reporter said that although there was a taste chicken but it mainly tasted like spices one reporter said that "The spicy flavour tasted almost exactly like the paste used in KFC’s hot & spicy chicken. It definitely lingered on the tongue, but we couldn't detect any fried chicken flavour." According to the bottle you must keep it refrigerated as it only lasts for five days

My opinion is that it is not a very good idea because it will get kids into eating their fingernail and that is not good for the For their nails so I would not buy this product because it not very healthy and it can not be good for your body and good for you.

What do you think? Would you try it?

This weeks reflection

Hello people this post is going to be a reflection of this week. So here we go.

So this week Mr wood has read us a lot of different picture books and I will be doing a review on the book called the water tower by Gary Crew. So the basic story line is  two boys (Bubba and spike) go to the water tower for a swim Bubba looses his shorts his spike goes back to get him new shorts Bubba goes back into the water and gets scared and climbs onto the top wraps his towel around him and climbs down to the ground he hides in the bushes and when he turns around something happens. When Spike returns with new shorts Bubba is in the water and he doesn't seem like his normal self The end.  So that's the basic story line but if you look at the symbol on the water tower you can see it is a circle with a gap at the bottom you think it is just a symbol but if you look closely through out the book you can see that symbol a lot on peoples hands in there eyes on the tower it tells another story.
Overall this is a really awesome book and I think you should read it but don't just flick through it Really read it and it will tell you a new story.

See you later

Maths reflection

Today I will be doing a reflection on something I learnt It is how to Change percentages into fractions

Percent means -> out of 100
Here are howto do it

21% so we have to turn 21% into a fraction because percent means 100  write it out like this you put on the 100 on the bottom and 21 on the top   21
                                                          100

Lets try another one  lets turn 88% into a fraction so you put the  100 on the bottom and the 88 on the top  so it looks like this 88
                             100

Main Stars Mt Kahikatea

In my Camp diary I mentioned climbing  Mt Kahikatea so now I am going to tell you a little more about it. So we set off all in one group a few dragging behind with Mr wood and we started going up the steep bits and some of the people kept stopping because they were to tired so everyone split up and just went in their own group I went with Zoe and Brodie. Brodie and I had very similar climbing patterns and Zoe sort of go tired and stopped but we kept gong and she caught up with us later so Brodie and I had a very good system the trip up took about 2-3 hours and so we decides 5-10 minutes of full on climbing then stop for a couple of seconds then keep going we only stopped for a second because we found that we both we much slower if we stopped for long periods of time so we only took short breaks and kept pushing and going when we got to the top of that mountain it was so worth it the view was amazing and when we went to the look out it was so beautiful you could see the north island it was one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. we sat and ate some lunch than made our way back down this took us about a hour coming down really steep slopes is really hard I cut my hand when I fell but overall is was awesome.
