Kiwi kids news - Rare flower blossoms



One of the worlds rarest flowers have bloomed in Auckland New Zealand The flower is called the Titan Arum Flower has opened fully on a Sunday In Auckland's Wintergarden. The flower is about 2.5m high and is called an Amorphophallus Titanum. It is also known as the corpse flower, because the smell it gives off is like rotting skin. Its smell is strong enough to spread for two to three kilometers, attracting insects the plant needs to pollinate it. The flower is from the Sumatra Forests in Indonesia and blooms once every seven to 10 years. The huge flower bud began opening about 2pm on Saturday.
